Tropism is directional growth or movement of a plant in response to an environmental stimulus.
Phototropism is the growth of plants in response to light.
Positive Phototropism: plants grow towards the light source. Ex: Shoot System.
Negative Phototropism: plants grow away from the light source. Ex: Roots.
Geotropism is also known as gravitropism, is the growth of a plant in response to gravity.
Positive Geotropism: Growing in the direction of gravitational pull. Ex: Roots
Negative Geotropism: Growing against the direction of gravity. Ex: Shoot system.
This is controlled by a plant hormone called Auxin.
